About The Series
Throughout this season, the ALEX will celebrate David Bowie with a series of films tracing his remarkable relationship with cinema.
Moving between iconic performances, unexpected roles, music, and the many identities Bowie created across his career, the series looks beyond the conventional music retrospective to explore one of the 20th century’s great artistic shape-shifters through the movies he inhabited and inspired.
The series begins September 13 with Moonage Daydream, Brett Morgen’s kaleidoscopic portrait of Bowie’s life and imagination, hosted by author and co-curator Steve Horton. Additional screenings this season include The Hunger on October 14 and a special November 27 presentation of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.
David Bowie, Life on Film invites audiences to encounter an artist who approached cinema the same way he approached everything else: as another space in which to transform.
Each screening will be a special event, with guest hosts, artists, and other special guests joining the ALEX to offer new perspectives on Bowie, his work, and his extraordinary relationship with cinema. Additional guests and hosts will be announced in the coming months. Second half of David Bowie, Life on Film to be revealed in the coming months, with more screenings continuing into 2027.
